Saturday 20th May saw hundreds of young farmers, their parents, grandparents and supporters take to the County Chairman’s home farm at Hurstley Court, Kinnersley to compete a in a number of competitions at the annual rally.
This year the overall theme was ‘Best of British’, with competitions which included maypole dancing, Badminton horse trials, dress up as Adam Henson as well as the more traditional competitions; floral art, cookery, woodwork and cake decorating. There was a very high standard of competition throughout the day with members from almost all clubs across the county picking up prize cards.
One competition that got the crowds gathering was the shearing, competitors are judged on their ability to shear the sheep, their neatness and the time in which it takes them to shear. In the Intermediate class Matt Rowlands from Woolhope took home the 1st prize card and the Billy Rudge Memorial Cup and in the Senior class Chris Rowberry from Pencombe took 1st place.
The theme of the main exhibit this year was ‘Best of British’ and each club across the county had been working hard, painting, laying turf and researching in order to take the 1st place, on the day the winning exhibit came from Golden Valley, closely followed by Pencombe.
The day ended with prizegiving, with again a large number of clubs across the County receiving prize cards and trophies which were presented by a representative of our overall rally sponsor HSBC. One of the trophies on offer was the Barbara Garlick Trophy, this is awarded to the club gaining the highest total points in the floral art classes, Eardisley were awarded it this year after winning each of the floral art competitions. The overall rally winners were an incredibly happy Dilwyn, who took a large number of the trophies away with them including the Stockjudging Shield, The Junior Challenge Cup and The Stephens Domestic Science Cup.
